The European Meetings & Events Conference 2017 has received the Sustainable Event certification from Eventsost.

The European Meetings & Events Conference (EMEC), organized this year by the association Meeting Professionals International (MPI), took place from March 5th to 7th at the Palacio de Congresos in Granada. The event was planned with sustainability in mind, aiming to reduce environmental impact and enhance the economic impact on the host destination. These efforts earned the event the Sustainable Event certification from Eventsost, a recognition awarded exclusively to events that meet strict sustainability criteria.

Among the various sustainable practices implemented by MPI Spain for organizing the conference, the following stand out:

  • Collection and selective management of generated waste.
  • Use of facilities that optimize energy consumption.
  • Optimization of attendee mobility during the event, with all hotels located close to the Palacio de Congresos de Granada.
  • Catering with local products.
  • Hiring of local companies, suppliers, and workers.
  • Measurement and compensation of the event's carbon footprint, in collaboration with a high-value social and environmental project through the Fundación Ecología y Desarrollo.
  • Communication and public awareness actions regarding the event's sustainability.
  • Minimization of material consumption.
  • Use of an app to avoid paper distribution.

Additionally, the Palacio de Congresos de Granada is equipped with an environmental management system certified under the ISO 14001 standard.

With this new and significant certified event, MPI positions itself among the pioneering associations in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector, integrating more sustainable practices in the organization of their events.
